Barbara
Barbara qualified as an optometrist over 30 years ago and has been part of the practice since 2003. She is particularly experienced in supporting people with sight loss, helping patients make the most of their remaining vision and maintain their independence.
She also provides urgent eye care, and as an independent prescriber she can assess and treat conditions such as red or painful eyes, offering timely care when problems arise.
Alongside her work in practice, Barbara is Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University, where she works four days a week. She has a PhD and has published widely in international journals on sight loss and health services research.
Barbara has also worked at a national level as Chief Optometric Advisor to the Welsh Government. In recognition of her contribution to optometry, she was awarded an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours.
