Helen

Helen has been a qualified optometrist for over 30 years. She now works part time as she balances her clinical time seeing patients with managing the business at Monnow Eyecare.

She has gained extra qualifications in Glaucoma and therapeutics and is registered as an independent prescriber. This enables her to monitor glaucoma patients in the community and is able to issue NHS prescriptions directly for many eye conditions and provide end to end emergency eyecare within Monnow Eyecare.

Helen is particularly interested in emergency eyecare and is quite often removing bits of metal when local farmers have forgotten to wear goggles.

With the new WGOS as more services have been moved into the community, Helen along with the rest of the clinical team will be able to monitor more patients in the community as hospital services transfer to primary care settings alongside the day to day testing eyes and prescribing the extensive range of glasses at Monnow Eyecare.

A lot of her spare time is spent on the river Wye rowing with the women's crew at Monmouth rowing club.
