Helen

Helen has been a qualified optometrist for over 35 years. She now works part time as she balances her clinical time seeing patients with managing the business at Monnow Eyecare.

After gaining higher qualifications in glaucoma and therapeutics, Helen is able to provide end-to- end eyecare and treat many emergency eye conditions at Monnow Eyecare. She also triages referrals into the hospital for glaucoma patients. With the new Welsh GOS, more services have been moved into the community. Helen, along with the rest of the clinical team, will be able to monitor more patients as hospital services transfer to primary care settings. This is alongside the day-to-day testing eyes as well as prescribing the extensive range of glasses stocked at Monnow Eyecare.

She has worked to expand the practice since 2008 to three times the original capacity by bringing new Optometrists into the team and extending the Monnow Eyecare building itself.

A lot of Helen’s spare time is spent on the River Wye rowing with the women's crew at Monmouth Rowing Club.
