Barbara

Barbara qualified as an optometrist over 30 years ago and she has worked in the practice since 2003. Her area of specialist clinical interest is providing low vision rehabilitation services for people with sight loss.

Barbara has a PhD and has published in international journals on sight loss and she was the founding clinical lead for the community based Low Vision Service Wales.

Barbara has also completed a two-year diploma in therapeutics which has enabled her to register as an independent prescriber so that she can prescribe eye medications directly and provide end to end emergency eyecare within Monnow Eyecare.

Barbara works in Cardiff University 4 days a week where she is Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences. She was previously Chief Optometric Advisor to Welsh Government. In the 2019 New Years Honours, Barbara was awarded the MBE for services to Optometry.
